| Dear Neighbors,
After a long, snowy, winter with a number of challenges, our construction is back in gear, and here is a long overdue update.
In mid-December we lost our prime contractor who walked off the job with no notice. We now understand why. While we were working to replace him and recover our (and your) costs from his surety bonding company, he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Since he was only paid for COMPLETED work, his departure and bankruptcy had no effect on our finances, only on the progress of the job since we were forced to find a new general contractor, in concert with his surety company.
We have finally found an acceptable GC and we ask you to welcome The Nurzia Construction Corporation to town and to the job.
Nurzia is out of Fishkill, NY and has considerable experience in the construction and renovation of fire facilities.
We look forward to finishing the project with their company, with a target date of December.
You might have noticed that work is already ramping up. Site cleanup is in progress, and we are uncovering the parking in front of the project location, across from the North Star. This will include reinstallation of the charging station for EVs.
Block work on the addition walls and backfilling the foundation walls in front along Westchester Avenue are also in progress. We should be at full speed in the next week.
Sorry to have left this report in limbo for so long, but the situation was such that making a statement with any certainty was just not in the cards.
As we progress we will endeavor to make these updates on a monthly basis. Thank you for your patience.
